Members’ Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions are additional to the general terms and conditions and should be read in conjunction with them.

  1. Access to parts of this website is password protected, is subject to you being a member of the Association of Costs Lawyers and maintaining your membership and subscription payment.
  2. Cost Lawyer members will have access to their own profile on the website where personal details and details which may be publicly available on the website can be updated. Members are responsible for ensuring that:
  3. account details are kept confidential and are not used by any other party
  4. account and contact details are up to date and correct
  5. contact information that is made public via the website is up to date and correct
  6. The Association of Costs Lawyers reserves the right to terminate or restrict your access to this site, at any time and without notice.

Membership & Fees

  1. All Cost Lawyer Members must hold a current Practicing Certificate as issued by the regulator – The Costs Lawyers Standards Board.
  2. Fees for ACL membership are paid annually in advance and are non-refundable. If members reinstate their membership part way through the year the full annual membership will be payable.  Depending on the circumstances of reinstatement a discretionary discount may be applied.
  3. Part year Membership can be provided to those returning from a period of leave with the cost being pro-rated accordingly to reflect part year membership.
  4. The Association of Costs Lawyers may at its discretion provide short term complimentary or discounted membership to students undertaking the ACL training course and/or newly qualified members (newly qualified classified as first full calendar year following qualification). The duration and level of complimentary or discounted membership may vary dependant on qualification period.

Use of the Forum

Users may not post any inappropriate material, including (without limitation) material which is:

  1. defamatory or libellous or would infringe the rights of others;
  2. protected by copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy, unless the user has the permission of the owner of such rights;
  3. promotes illegal activity or violates any applicable local, national, international or foreign law, statute, ordinance or regulation including (without limitation) laws and regulations governing export control, or would give rise to criminal or civil liability of any sort whatsoever;
  4. threatening or abusive or promotes physical harm or violence against any individual or group;
  5. promotes bigotry, racism or hatred;
  6. is pornographic, obscene or offensive;
  7. contains any viruses, trojans, worms or other computer-programming routines that are intended to damage, interfere with, intercept or extract any system, data or personal information.
  8. Users may not use offensive or deliberately misleading user names.

Terms and conditions for conference and events bookings

  1. Your booking for a conference or event constitutes a legally binding contract.
  2. No booking shall be accepted until payment has been received. Places cannot be reserved until payment has been received.
  3. Confirmation of your booking will be sent to you within 14 days of receipt of payment. In the event that a booking confirmation is not received 14 days prior to the event you should contact the Association to ensure that you have a place reserved.
  4. We reserve the right to vary or cancel the event due to unforeseen circumstances and on such an occasion a full refund will be made.
  5. We reserve the right to amend the timings of events and cannot accept any liability for the content of presentations changing at short notice. We may, at our sole discretion change the format, speakers, venue location, programme or any other aspect of the event at any time and for any reason.
  6. Unless otherwise stated at the time of booking, the cancellation charges are as follows:
    1. In the event that a delegate is unable to attend and wishes to transfer their place, a £25 (plus vat) administration fee will be incurred.
    2. Cancellations received up to 14 days prior to an event are subject to a cancellation fee of £30 (plus vat). There will be no refund if a booking is cancelled within 14 days of the event.
    3. Any refund for an event booking payment will be made minus the transaction fees charged by the provider.
  1. Prices for all events are correct at the time of publication. We reserve the right to change the price at any time, but such changes will not affect registrations which have already been confirmed.
  2. Force Majeure (unforeseeable events)
  3. The Association of Costs Lawyers Limited will make every possible attempt to ensure that the advertised event is run. However, we do reserve the right to cancel any event at any time and whilst a full refund will be given, we will not be held liable for any costs incurred by delegates.
